Now ask yourself, what do I really need right now?
If you’re getting caught up in the whirlwind – whether it’s work pressures, the chaos of US politics, a personal crisis, or troubling world events – you might notice some tension in your body.
A pain in your belly. The overwhelm of racing thoughts. The chronic exhaustion.
If you've been in my world for a bit, you've heard me say many times that one of the most powerful tools I teach is the art of Body Listening. Tuning in to your body’s signals and understanding what it truly needs to support your health, healing, leadership, and parenting.
There are many ways to engage in Body Listening. For starters, you begin with tuning in and noticing what’s happening in the body.
And sometimes, it’s as simple as asking, “what do I really need right now?”
A beloved client – a powerhouse activist who is firing on all cylinders right now and doing amazing life-giving work in these times, but feeling the urgency, grief, and overwhelm – said to me this week, “I need to return to this practice.”
How about you?
Try it:
🌀 Pause.
🌀 Breathe deeply.
🌀 Ask: What do I need right now?
(Hint: The answer is often something simple - a glass of water, nourishing food, 20-second hugs, some deep breaths (or powerful lion’s breath), some full-bodied movement to release tension, or a moment of stillness.)
Maybe you're thinking, "Sure, Kelly, I can do that." Or, "I already do that."
Or even, "How does this possibly help when everything feels like it’s falling apart?"
It’s true. This is a simple technique to get through a moment. And many moments are calling for our attention right now.
But we’re not just here for moments. We’re here for the long road.
