5 helpful things you can do right now

The shock, chaos, and awe in the world right now are intentional - and without care and attention, can be deeply dysregulating.

When you're leading change in volatile times, holding space for others, or trying to keep things together, it's easy to tuck away the fears, neglect your own needs, and keep pushing through. But eventually, that catches up with you.

Now more than ever, when the collective nervous system in a state of disarray, it's essential to return to your own center - leading, providing, and caregiving from a place of groundedness, rather than depletion.

Here's what I'm doing right now, rotating through this list daily:

  1. Taking action for the collective, small steps.

  2. Taking action in my work, creating a very special offering that inspires and can serve many, in this moment.

  3. Moving my body and going deeper with my stabilizing, releasing, and spiritual practices.

  4. Calling on the wisdom, commitment, and courage of those who’ve walked through unimaginably hard times before - the ones I carry in my heart, and the ones who I've read about and long admired.

  5. Connecting with humans in meaningful ways - deep talks, cooking for loved ones, finding joy in the simplest of things, talking middle school drama with my kid.

Most of all, I ask myself:
What do I need to stay resourced so I can keep showing up as a changemaker and mama?

Now, YOU. Five Simple Steps.

If you’re feeling unsteady, or just need to be reminded of how much of a changemaker you are, here’s a simple set of steps to help you get grounded and centered:

1️⃣ Take action.

Helplessness can lead to shutdown and frozen energy. Even one small step makes a difference, for you, and for others. And when many people take small steps, regularly, it builds real momentum. And it helps those most vulnerable right now know we've got them/ you.

Ask yourself: What is one action, however small, that I can take today? (If you need ideas, I have them. Reach out.)

2️⃣ Lead in your own life.

Where do you have agency? How can you show up differently right now so you feel your own sense of potency and leadership? This could be in your work, your family, your advocacy, or simply in how you care for yourself. Key is not waiting for the outside world to feel steady before you step in to lead.

Choose one way to show up as leader today—big or small.

3️⃣ Lean into stability.

In the chaos, what in your life is steady and predictable? Maybe it’s your morning tea, the sunrise, the mountain outside your window, a beloved friend or partner, a rhythm you’ve already created. Borrow from that steadiness. Use stability outside of you as an anchor.

4️⃣ Call in support.

Who inspires you in how they move(d) through the world? This is about tapping into the archetypal support of those who’ve walked through the fire before. Who embodies the strength, wisdom, or resilience you need right now? Call them into the room with you, even if only in spirit.

Notice how you already carry part of their essence within you, and draw upon their wisdom, persistence, courage, and heart, for renewed perspective and expanded capacity, in this moment.

5️⃣ Connect with your people. Look into someone’s eyes. See and be seen. Our nervous systems are wired for connection, and in times like these, we need each other more than ever. A simple moment of real human connection - through presence, kindness, or even a knowing glance - can remind you that you’re not alone. And is essential for a healthy nervous system in chaotic times.

Wishing you beauty, hope, and sanctuary.

I see you, changemaker.

Keep showing up with courage, deep breaths, and your beautiful heart.

We need you here, and we need you resilient.

The world needs you well.

With love and many blessings,

Kelly
